A PIECE OF AMERICAN HISTORY!
This journal was written 1833/1834 by David P. Reid who was aborad the Ship-of-the-Line Delaware. The journal is in remarkable condition.
"New York AugUst 12, 1833. Went on board the United States Ship of the Line Delaware, 74 Cap H.E. Ballard Commadore at New York while lying in the North River oposite the Battery August 12, 1833. On which day the President of the United States, the Secretary of the Nave and board of Comm????ioners visited the Ship fired a Salute of 24 guns on the 14th we dropt down to Sandy Hook and Dropt our anchor"
May 1st 1834 was the birth day of the King of France and the USS Delaware was at the port of Toulon France. There was much celebrating which the Delaware joined by offering a salute. Three of their guns proved to be "shotted" which caused the shot to go astray. One struck a French 74 about 3/4 of a mile away. Two men were killed and several injured.

Evaline Winifred Squires Bible
Before this bible belonged to Evaline it belonged to Mrs. W. Singleton, 809 Artabasi, Long Beach, Ca., then to Evaline Winifred Squires, Pea Vine School, Carroll Co., Mo. There is birth and death dates for Mrs. Singleton. Evaline was born in 1868 and because of a small note she died at the age of 81 in 1949. The bible measures 5 1/4" X 3 1/2", there is black take on both sides of the spine and there are 5 loose pages (see photos). There are newpaper items pasted to the front and back inside boards. There is a lot of handwritten items on the front and rear pages which were originally blank. The clasp is there and in very good condition. A great treasure for the families of either of these women. Diary belonging to ELVA ROSE MCKINNEY for the years 1937, 1938, 1939 and part of 1940.
March 16 1937 My birthday. 15 years old. Harvey P. gave me a topick holder.
March 16 1938 Wednesday 16 years old on the 16th. My lucky year, got pen from Ise and Shie.
March 16 1939 Thursday. Jo sure surprised me-she had the Texas Rangers dedicate a song to me - got Easter egg with my name on it too - and $1 from Illl & Shie
March 16 1940 eighteen years old. Got brooch, braclet, scrap book, stamps and book $1 for cosmetis, pencil ets. Was in Lawrence, up to Ill's, surprise party on me. Played pinchole until 2:45 a.m.
Jo is Elva's sister
August 3 1937 Jo's birthday Jo-14 years old.
November 24 1939 Friday. daddy came home just as Betty Jo passed away. heart wore out. I her at 4:30 p.m she died at 5:10 P.M. She was 16 years old.

"September 16, 1938 - I had my oration with Mr. Ortmann, director of the Peabody Conservatory. I passed it."
"October 1, 1938 - Am attending school at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. Staying at Hall House. My roomate is Mildred Adams from Danville, Virginia"
Elizabeths birthday was October 18.

Florence A. Chase Newcomer,
Diary belonging to Florence Newcomer 1893. Cannot quite make it out but believe she lived in Michigan.
Measures 4" tall and 2 3/4" wide. In remarkably good condition.
Florence was born Mar. 28, 1855 and married Feb. 24, 1874. Her maiden name was Chase. She had a brother named Charles who was born Jan 12, 1843 and two sisters Mary and Bell.. Her father's birth day was Jan 4, about 1813, she was not sure but believed he was 80 in 1893.
Florence suffered some sort of illness and was still recouperating in 1893.
